Act of Kindness or Service to Others
As a class for our final day of the semester we will be sharing random acts of kindness that we have actually encountered/tried with strangers or have seen strangers doing.
Please think of a story you can tell in 3 minutes about kindness. This could be a story that a stranger helped you and was kind to you or it could be something kind and compassionate that you did . It must be an action you witnessed first hand (not on a movie, in the news, or in a story, etc.) of a stranger showing kindness.
Please have your story ready for our final class when we will share our 3 minutes story of kindness to strangers.
You will be graded on 4 Cs: Clarity, Completeness, Creativity, and Content (Specific)
If you need inspiration and ideas, watch the movie Pay it Forward (or the clip of the movie below). Also you can go to the Website called Random Acts of Kindness. This will help you notice and remember something you have seen (on the train, on the street, while volunteering, or at a public place. Read about some example acts of kindness here. Or look up more stories online here. Also here is another list of more ideas.
If you would like to try long term, regular acts of volunteer service, consider joining a local organization or volunteering at one of the events or organizations on idealist.org in your area. You could keep witnessing and doing these acts of Kindness through local Japanese organizations like Peaceboat.org, Japanese Association for Refugees, Habitat for Humanity, or Table for 2,.
If you are not interested or afraid of doing an act of kindness to a stranger, you still need to observe and take notes about other people doing an act of kindness to a stranger in real life (not in a movie or on tv, etc) and be ready to report this to the class on the last day.
